1996 Koenigsegg CC

1996 Koenigsegg CC

This is the 1996 Koenigsegg CC prototype, known as XP001, marking the first major step in Christian von Koenigsegg’s journey to create his very own supercar. This prototype, constructed on a tube frame in Olofström, Skåne County, Sweden, was the beginning of a remarkable series of vehicles that would eventually lead to the production of the Koenigsegg CC8S. The car first appeared in 1995 for a shake down, where early tests were conducted at the Anderstorp race track. Unlike later Koenigseggs, XP001 was equipped with a 420hp modified Audi 4.2L V8 engine, which was a far cry from the high-performance engines used in later models. Initially painted silver, XP001 underwent several paint color changes, with Christian von Koenigsegg requesting a color from Volvo’s palette that led to the now-legendary ‘Volvo Burnt Orange’ color. Unfortunately, a miscommunication led to the car being painted in an interesting shade of brown instead. For the next two decades, XP001 remained a prominent exhibit at the Motala Motor Museum in Sweden. The car found a new home recently with the @numerounocollection where it’s displayed prominently as a remarkable piece of Koenigsegg history. The car was unveiled at various stages during its development, with its first public appearance in 1996 at the Anderstorp race track marking the start of Koenigsegg’s journey into high-performance automobiles. The XP001 was integral to the development of the Koenigsegg CC8S, which became the company’s first production car. In September 2000, XP003, the CC8S production prototype, was unveiled at the French Motor Show in Paris, serving as the test and crash car necessary for homologating the CC8S for customer sales. XP002, another prototype in the series, was displayed at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival. The CC8S became the first production car from Koenigsegg, setting the stage for future success in the automotive world.
