1977 Lamborghini Countach LP400 ‘Periscopica’

1977 Lamborghini Countach LP400 ‘Periscopica’

This is the ‘Viola Metallizzato’ 1977 Lamborghini Countach LP400 ‘Periscopica’ with a white leather interior. This car is chassis number 1120248, and it’s effortlessly one of the finest Countach examples known to exist. An Italian industrial design company specializin in car styling, coachbuilding and manufacturing known as Bertone was pioneering and popularizing the ‘wedge-shape’ design. For the Countach model, Lamborghini first showcased the Lamborghini LP500 concept in 1971 during the Geneva Motor Show, a first look at the new upcoming rear mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive wedge-looking sports car that was set to be produced. The creator of created Automobili Lamborghini, Ferruccio Lamborghini was determined to create a successor model to the Lamborghini Miura. In order to achieve this, Italian mechanical engineer and automotive designer Paolo Stanzani and his team began work on this new replacement for the Miura under the codename ‘LP112’. Some other notable names that are worth mentioning due to their great contributions include but are not limited to assistant engineer Massimo Parenti, Italian car designer, Marcello Gandini, and test driver Bob Wallace. The production ready ‘LP400’ Countach made its worldwide debut in 1974, ‘LP’ standing for longitudinale posteriore, and ‘400’ for the 3.9L engine displacement. Some changes from prototype to production included the addition of several vents to improve cooling & air intake, horizontally-split two piece windows with a retractable lower half, a conventionally-styled dashboard featuring Stewart-Warner analog gauges. The periscope rear-view mirror was utilized for the early LP400 cars, which is why the name is implemented. The styling of the Countach continued to become more and more contrastive over the years, with additional wings and vents being added on later models, leaving these early cars to be appreciated for their sleek and smooth body lines.
