1988 Lamborghini Genesis

1988 Lamborghini Genesis

A minivan is not something that you would generally associate with the Lamborghini brand name, however, this concept car shown here is exactly that, a five-door minivan with gull-wing doors, that utilizes Lamborghini parts. This is the unbelievably rare 1988 Lamborghini Genesis by Bertone, designed by Bertone’s chief designer, Marc Deschamps. On April 21st of 1988 during the Turin Motor Show, this unique creation bursted onto the automotive scene with numerous unprecedented design elements and a 5.2L Lamborghini Countach Quattrovalvole V12 engine that was capable of producing 455bhp. Entry to the cockpit of the Genesis 5-door van concept was designed with the incorporation of ‘gullwing’ style doors. The Genesis was built to have a rather spacious interior filled with red and grey Alcantara leather, 180 degree rotating front seats, a TV, adjustable leg rests and much more. Despite the fact that the Genesis was created by Bertone merely as a show car and nothing else, it’s still noteworthy that it reportedly took up to 30,000 hours to create this unique one-off machine, and it’s certainly now an important piece of both Bertone and Lamborghini’s history. The car was equipped with a three-speed automatic transmission which was provided by Chrysler, who was owned by Lamborghini at the time. The Genesis was seemingly practical minus the powerful V12 engine. It’s safe to say Lamborghini has absolutely no plans of creating a mini van with gullwing doors, a TV, and a V12 from the 80’s, however, if they did, I’m sure they’d sell out rather fast. At almost two tons, and configured for rear wheel drive, would you get behind the wheel of this one-off Lamborghini minivan?
