This is the unbelievable ‘Blu Scuro’ 1998 Lamborghini Diablo SV Monterey Edition (WLA12023). This is 1 of under 400 examples of the Diablo SV between coupe & roadster (still being tracked) that were built for the world, with this particular variant being number 18 of just 20 total ‘Monterey Edition’ examples produced. The SV (Super Veloce) was launched in 1995 at the Geneva Motor Show, and featured a number of exterior and mechanical enhancements over its predecessor models. Despite its power improvements, the Diablo SV quickly became Lamborghini’s entry model, and by entry, meaning the least expensive in the series of Diablo variants available at the time. The SV designation was the revival of the title which originated back on the Miura SV, which was first presented in 1971. The Diablo SV also came standard with an adjustable rear wing, and larger breaks. As for this specific example, being that it’s a Monterey Edition, it’s part of a very limited 20-car run of special SVs that were developed specifically for the United States. Some noticeable differences from the ‘Monterey Edition’ in comparison to the standard SV include but are not limited to SE30/VT Roadster style air intakes, a 530-hp version of Lamborghini’s famous 5.7-liter V12 engine (which makes the Diablo SV Monterey Edition the most powerful Lamborghini with pop-up headlights), an individually numbered plaque, and much more! The designers and engineers in Sant’Agata Bolognese revealed the SV Monterey Edition one year before the significant facelift the model recieved in 1999, and as a result, the car still retains the highly desirable pop-up headlights, leaving this to be one of the most nostalgic, and appealing Lamborghini models of all time.
