2007 Lamborghini Alar

2007 Lamborghini Alar

This car shown here is known as the 2007 Lamborghini Alar (also known as the 777 or the Centurion). Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A was founded 59 years ago in 1963 by industry icon Ferruccio Lamborghini. After running into financial difficulties, 51% of the entire Lamborghini company was sold off to wealthy Swiss businessman, Georges-Henri Rossetti in 1972. Just two years later, Lamborghini sold off his remaining 49% of the company to René Leimer. The situation worsened even further when the Lamborghini company went bankrupt in 1978. The company wound up in the receivership of brothers Jean-Claude and Patrick Mimran in 1980, who then purchased Lamborghini in 1984 and began to expand. In the year 1987, Lamborghini was sold to the Chrysler Corporation. In 1994, the Lamborghini company was then sold again to Malaysian investment group Mycom Setdco and Indonesian group V’Power Corporation. In 1995, both Robert A. Braner, president of Automobili Lamborghini USA and then head of head of Automobili Lamborghini S.P.A, Michael J. Kimberly received permission to produce Lamborghini automobiles in both Argentina and some other countries in Latin America. With this permission, the Alar project (amongst others) came to life in Mexico under Automoviles Lamborghini Latinoamérica S.A, an independent Mexican company started by Jorge Antonio Fernández García after securing Lamborghini’s trademark rights for Latin America. The Diablo-based Alar made its first ever appearance in Buenos Aires at Expo World Cars in April of 2007 after a unique body was designed by Ariel Casariego and Joan Ferci. The Alar features large air intakes, a centrally arranged rear end consisting of several exhaust tailpipes, and many other unique features. Interestingly, although only present on paper, the Alar was set to be powered by a 7.7 L V12 engine capable of producing 770 bhp. There were also seemingly plans of introducing a 100% electric version as well.
