If you’re a fan of concept cars, this is simply one of the greatest to exist, the 2014 Lamborghini Asterion LPI (Longitudinale Posteriore Ibrido) 910-4, a hybrid concept that was first ever displayed by Italian manufacturer, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. during the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Iconic models such as the Miura, the Countach, the Diablo, the Murciélago and more instantly ring a bell when it comes to Lamborghini, but one car you may have never seen (or ever even heard of) before is this one shown here, the Asterion. The name, Asterion is derived from a creature from Greek mythology known as the Minotaur called Asterion. The Asterion features ‘swan’ style doors, and was planning on making use of a 5.2 L V10 engine paired with 3x Permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors. Italian automobile stylist, Filippo Perini, the Asterion’s designer, worked hard to incorporate the batteries into the car’s central shaft, ultimately improving the center of gravity and safety. The top speed for this interesting concept is said to be in the region of 185mph, and with just electric motors running, around 78mph, all while being able to accelerate from 0-60mph in just about 3 seconds. The Asterion features carbon fiber composite plastic body panels and a carbon fiber monocoque that was borrowed from the current flagship V12 model, the Aventador. The interior cabin is quite simple and features carbon-fiber, aluminium and titanium trim with ivory leather seats, and tons of storage space, something you wouldn’t often find from the Lamborghini brand in 2013. The Asterion has three specific driving modes including ‘Zero’, which is full electric mode, ‘Ibrido’, which is combined power, and ‘Termico’, which is just the engine alone. The Asterion project was eventually shelved in favor of the new flagship SUV model, the Lamborghini Urus.
