This is the 2017 Lamborghini Terzo Millennio, and it’s perhaps the most unbelievable design created by the company over its rich 60+ year history as a company. Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A was founded in 1963 by Ferruccio Lamborghini. After running into financial difficulties, 51% of the entire Lamborghini company was sold off to wealthy Swiss businessman, Georges-Henri Rossetti in 1972. Just two years later, Lamborghini sold off his remaining 49% of the company to Rosetti’s friend, René Leimer. The situation worsened even further when the Lamborghini company went bankrupt in 1978. In 1980, Swiss brothers Jean-Claude and Patrick Mimran were both appointed administer the company during its receivership. Following the Mimran brothers’ ownership, Lamborghini was sold to Chrysler in 1987, then passed through several hands before finally finding stability under Volkswagen Group’s Audi division in 1998, leading to today’s success as a luxury and performance powerhouse. Around 2016, the Terzo Millennio (which is Italian for Third Millennium) began development alongside the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The model’s radical designed is the work of German automobile designer and chief engineer, Mitja Borkert, while serving as director of Lamborghini Centro Stile. The Terzo Millennio makes use of complete carbon fiber body panels, an exterior-monitoring health system, a sliding canopy roof, a fully-autonomous system for track use, and more. The power source called for high-capacity supercapacitors rather than traditional batteries, enabling swift energy capture and release to enhance performance without depending on chemical processes. Each wheel houses its own electric motor, allowing precise torque control for exceptional stability akin to that of a contemporary Formula One car, resulting in a setup that would operate as all-wheel drive if operational.
