1974 Maserati Khamsin

1974 Maserati Khamsin

This beautiful car shown here at @limerockpark’s recent Historic Festival 42 is a 1974 Maserati Khamsin, and it’s 1 of just around 435 total examples produced due primarily to the 1973 oil crisis. Originally finished in ‘Celeste Chiaro’, this example was the car on display at the 1974 Turin Auto Show! This Khamsin was since repainted to the ‘Fucco Red’ finish shown here today, and has also undergone a complete restoration. The Khamsin (Tipo AM120) model was designed by Italian car designer, Marcello Gandini, while working for Italian industrial design company, Bertone. The Khamsin was first shown as a concept car for the first ever time during the 1972 Turin Motor Show. The Khamsin model was actually Bertone’s first ever project with Maserati, and by 1973, the production-ready variant of the Khamsin was displayed to the public during the Paris Motor Show. Due to the ongoing 1973 oil crisis, just 435 khasmin vehicles were produced by the time production ended in 1982, with just 155 of those cars being delivered to the United States. Despite the car pictured here having gone through some revamping and a complete restoration, the Khamsin model originally came out of the Maserati factory with a 4.9L AM 115.10.49 V8 engine. Perhaps one of the Khamsin’s most popular characteristics is its wedge-shape Gandini styling, which includes a fastback roofline and kammback rear end. The Khamsin was built using steel monocoque construction, with a rear Silentbloc-bushing insulated tubular subframe, double wishbone suspension, and a front-mid mounted engine. Khamsin models that were destined for the United States market were changed significantly in order to with the countries rules and regulations. Would you consider this to be one of the most beautiful Maserati models ever produced?
