2016 Maserati Zagato Mostro Coupe

2016 Maserati Zagato Mostro Coupe

This 2016 Maserati Zagato Mostro Coupe is one of only five built for the entire world and it’s quite possibly one of the most beautiful and interesting cars ever created. The car was built to celebrate Maserati’s centenary, or 100th year celebration, and it was inspired by the Zagato-bodied Maserati 450 S Coupé of 1957 also known as Il Mostro (the monster). Il Mostro (450 S) was the most powerful front-engined racing car until the 1990’s and was built originally for racing, but later was subsequently converted into a road car. Following that original format, this modern day Mostro was designed primarily for track-use, with the capability of also being used on the road. The 2016 Mostro is slightly more muscular looking than its 1957 spiritual predecessor with beefier fenders and an overall more appealing design with lots of curves and unique features. Zagato themselves put the Mostro’s beauty into their own words, “The final design of the Mostro is not nostalgic,” Zagato explained, “but rather iconic.” The body of the Mostro is made in Italy and built entirely out of carbon fiber, and the chassis used to develop this special machine was one of carbon fiber ‘MonoCell’ construction. Other notable features include on this car consist of a large fixed rear-wing, doors which open forwards and upwards, and wonderful fixed glass side windows. Underneath the hood of the Mostro is a 4.2L Maserati V8 engine that has dry-sump lubrication and is equipped with a programmable engine management system. Capable of approximately 460bhp, it’s safe to say the Mostro doesn’t only demonstrate beautiful styling, but noteworthy performance as well. A perfect continuation or design idea inspired by the Zagato-bodied Maserati 450 S Coupé of 1957!
