In particular, this 2020 McLaren Speedtail shown here is chassis 97 of just 106 total units planned for production for the entire world. This particular Speedtail is finished in a color known as ‘Burton Blue’ over a dark blue and black leather interior. The Speedtail was first ever announced on October 26, 2018 as a very special limited production hybrid hypercar, and features the notable three-seat design, which McLaren made popular with their legendary F1. Other than the obviously dramatic design of the exterior, performance wise, McLaren has claimed that the Speedtail is capable of top speeds around 250mph, which is extremely impressive. One of my favorite features on the Speedtail is the presence of electrochromic glass, which darkens/lightens at the push of a button. Key elements such as the lack of rear view mirrors (which are replaced by HD cameras mounted on the front guards) are an easy giveaway that this car is not able to be driven legally out on the road here in the US. Another common misconception about the Speedtail is the wheel covers set on the front wheels. These are actually removable carbon fiber static covers that are there to further reduce drag, and considering the Speedtail was built with the intent to achieve very high top speed numbers, it’s a design element that makes total sense. One other extremely interesting design feature are the hydraulically actuated active rear aerodynamic control surfaces, which are built using flexible carbon fiber, and are intergrated into the rear clamshell of the car.
