2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Crown Edition

2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Crown Edition

This is the 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren (C199 / R199 / Z199) 722 Crown Edition, a special variation of the SLR McLaren that was specially commissioned to the King of Bahrain to be gifted to fellow Middle Eastern royalty. The SLR McLaren showcased a rare moment when Mercedes Benz and Mclaren Automotive worked collaboratively on a joint project which would later become the SLR McLaren, or ‘Sport Leicht Rennsport’ Sport Light Racing). The car drew inspiration from the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300 SL racer, which debuted at the 1955 Mille Miglia. The idea for the SLR officially came to life during the 1999 North American International Auto Show, where is it was presented as ‘Tommorow’s Silver Arrow’. Later that same year, in 1999, Mercedes-Benz would present a Roadster variant of the initial concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). The production version of the SLR McLaren was eventually shown to public for the first time on November 17th of 2003, where some minor adjustments were added by Formula 1 partner McLaren. A limited-production, performance-oriented variation of the SLR McLaren known as the 722 Edition (722 indicating the victory by Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson driving a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with the starting number 722 for 7:22 a.m., during the 1955 Mille Miglia was introduced in 2006, which is the model the Crown Edition is based upon. The SLR Roadster debuted at the Festival of Speed at Goodwood in 2007, and that same year, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the company released the 722 Roadster. This unique example is finished in ‘Alabaster White’ over a beige Alcantara/leather interior. Subtle crown logos and details can be seen all throughout this impressive machine, and it was first ever delivered to Kuwait City, Al Asimah Governate, Kuwait when it was completed.

How many made? ~2,157 SLR McLaren's were produced. 150 722 Coupes, and 150 722 Roadsters, of which just 10 total examples became ‘Crown Edition’ cars. This is car number 6 of 10
