This stunning 1968 Meyers Manx, once offered by @broadarrowauctions, is a true gem. This original, registry-authenticated Meyers Manx is finished in the eye-catching “Yuma Yellow” (22S) with contrasting white wheels and a black leather interior. The story of the Meyers Manx dune buggy dates back to 1964 when Bruce F. Meyers, an engineer, artist, boat builder, and surfer, envisioned a recreational vehicle designed for desert racing. From 1964 to 1971, his California-based company, B.F. Meyers & Co., produced around 6,000 original kits for the Meyers Manx, built on a shortened Volkswagen Beetle chassis, along with approximately 12 prototype models. The name “Meyers Manx” is inspired by the tailless Manx cat, reflecting the buggy’s compact and streamlined appearance. The early Mk I Meyers Manx models featured open-wheeled fiberglass bodies, Volkswagen Beetle H4 flat-four engines (ranging from 1.2L to 1.6L), and modified Beetle underpinnings. The Manx was a dominant force in dune racing and gained fame after its victory in the 1967 Mexican 1000 race. Due to its success, it’s estimated that around 250,000 replicas and copies have been produced by other companies, much like Carroll Shelby’s legendary Cobra. While the original Meyers Manx company ceased operations in 1971, Bruce Meyers revived the brand in 1999 by founding Meyers Manx, Inc., producing a limited run of 100 units of the “Classic Manx.” The company continues to operate under the name Meyers Manx, LLC, and 2012, the modern-day Meyers Manx vehicles have continued to be produced, using contemporary Beetle or other Volkswagen chassis.
