Welcome to the mysterious world of MTX, which is short for Metalex. Based in the Czech Republic, Metalex has a history of racing and manufacturing automobiles since 1969. Originally, the company started out as a repair shop for Czech automobile manufacturer Škoda Auto. Current day, Metalex focuses on renovations, modifications and service of their high-performance racing cars. One of the cars MTX produced in the early 90’s was this car, the 1993 MTX Tatra V8 (prototype III). In order to complete the project, MTX collaborated with Tatra, another Czech-based vehicle manufacturer. The car itself was designed by Czech automobile designer Václav Král & at the time, was the fastest Czech automobile in the world. This two-seat sports car features an aerodynamic body, a unique tubular chassis by Metalex (MTX), and a modified Tatra T 613 engine. Initially intended to produce 100 units, only three prototypes were ever constructed between 1991 and 1993, equipped with a four-liter, air-cooled V8 engine and Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, paired with a five-speed transmission and distinct slanted doors and folding headlights. Between the vertical scissor doors, pop-up headlights & sleek-looking aerodynamic design, the MTX Tatra V8 is definitely a machine worth discussing. The factory where the car was being produced suffered a devastating fire, which unfortunately forever terminated high-volume manufacturing of the Tatra V8. Only 3 (Black, Red, White) cars ended up being completed, with all but 1 in the hands of private owners, with the black example being kept in the Sports Car Museum in Lány. The white car is the second car completed from 1991-1993. One of these 3 prototypes was featured in the 2010 Kanye West video ‘Runaway’, which was recorded in Prague, Czech Republic. This Czechoslovakian Supercar is definitely a design that we’d like to see revisited & revived in the future!
