1934 Pierce-Arrow Model 840A Brougham

1934 Pierce-Arrow Model 840A Brougham

This car is not your typical daily driver, or a car that you should expect to see out and about anytime soon. This is the quite rare, and special 1934 Pierce-Arrow Model 840A Brougham (chassis 349625), finished in ‘French Blue’ with light blue accents and a tan interior. This car, which was seen for sale by @rmsothebys during our visit to Hershey, Pennsylvania in 2021 for the annual fall car meet and auction, and was shown in absolutely stunning condition inside and out, where the car managed to sell for a hammer price of $49,500. If you haven’t heard of Pierce-Arrow, the Pierce-Arrow Motor Car Company was an American motor vehicle manufacturer that was active from 1901 until 1938, where they produced a number of luxury automobiles, plus a variety of other things such as commercial trucks, fire trucks, camp trailers, motorcycles, and even bicycles as well. This model, known as the Model 840A sat in between Pierce-Arrow’s lineup at the time which was the mid-market 836A and the flagship, twelve-cylinder 1240/1250A. This car shown here is powered by a 140 hp, 385 cu. in. inline-eight cylinder engine that’s paired to a three-speed manual transmission, and overall allows this car to have notably impressive performance especially for the period of which it was built. Not only is this car quite impressive in terms of performance, and styling, but it’s also quite a rarity, considering it’s reported that the Pierce-Arrow Society has only 66 total 840As in their vehicle roster. Some of the most unique options found on this car shown include dual side-mounted spares with matching painted covers, dual Pilot-Ray driving lamps, and also period-appropriate fabrics found on the interior which compliment the exterior paintwork beautifully. Truly a timeless, and eye-catching automobile!

How many made? It is estimated that fewer than 1,740 units of the Model 840A (across all body styles) were produced in 1934. The Pierce-Arrow Society has only 66 total 840As in their vehicle roster.
