Have a look at this unbelievable looking 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe, finished in a beautiful black on gray leather specification, and decked out with a number of unique options and elements that allow this example to be truly unique! The Porsche 930 was manufactured by Porsche from 1975 until 1989, and of all of the different variants of this generation of the 911, the 3.3L Turbo was easily one of the most desirable. The Turbo was first introduced at the Paris Motor Show in October of 1974, and was marketed as a the ‘Turbo Carrera’ for early models destined for the US market. The 930 was discontinued entirely after 1989 when its the ‘G-Series’ platform was then being replaced by the 964. Significant changes came to the 930 Turbo model for the 1978 model year, which included enlarging the engine bore to a displacement of 3.3L, as opposed to 3.0L in previous model year examples, and also the addition of an air-to-air intercooler. These mechanical changes enabled the Turbo to now achieve a power output of around 296hp, allowing for the 930 Turbo to reach a top speed of around 155mph, while taking about 5.5 seconds to reach 60mph. By the year 1986, the Type 930 was re-introduced to both US and Japanese markets. Some notable occurrences that took place in 1987 regarding the 930-generation 911 included Porsche offering both 930 Targa and Cabriolet body styles alongside the standard coupe, as well as an ‘Exclusive options programme’ being officially launched that year. The year 1987 is also the year that the famous option known as the M505 Turbo S ‘Flachbau’ became available through that program. Other minor tweaks for the 1987 model year included a modified tail reflector strip, standard fully electric seats, improved brakes, and a few other improvements.
How many made? Porsche built around 23,000 930 Turbos from 1975 to 1989, and just 3,094 for the 1987 model year with even less being finished in black like this example.
