1993 Porsche 968 Turbo RS

1993 Porsche 968 Turbo RS

This very special Porsche shown here is 1 of just 4 of it’s kind ever to be produced, and the only one of it’s kind to be finished in yellow. This is the 1993 Porsche 968 Turbo RS (6061), the second of 4 total Turbo RS 968 examples developed for the entire world, with the first car being a red example which was constructed from a 1992 US-spec 968 Coupe (0065), followed by this yellow car shown here, then a black example (6062), and finally, a white example (6063). The reason behind the development of the Porsche 968 Turbo RS was simple, to develop a unique car that was capable of competing in the ADAC GT racing series in Germany at the time. Starting in 1992, Porsche Motorsports Research and Development division began work on a new project which would offer a stripped down, ‘race-version’ of the Porsche 968, which would later be offered to Porsche’s customer racing teams. The Turbo RS is the rarest variation of the Porsche 968 ever created, and the interior of the car is vastly different from standard, offering a completely lightweight experience, removing all unneeded components, and equipped with Recaro racing seats, and a welded in roll cage. Two different variations of the 968 Turbo RS were offered, including a 337hp variant with a Turbo S K27 turbocharger, which was built to German ADAC GT specification, and an ‘international’ specification, offering 350hp, and an KKK L41 turbocharger. In racing, the Turbo RS made it’s first ever appearance on the track with the first ‘Guard’s Red’ prototype on May 9, 1993 at the AVUS high-speed track. Chassis 6061 was built from the factory with a passenger’s seat (M389 bucket), as opposed to the other cars which only offered one seat. This car, while being the second produced of four total, is considered to be the 1st ‘production’ example of the 968 Turbo RS, with the first car being considered as a prototype.
