Shown here is one of just around 1,752 examples of the 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera S that were produced for North America, and it’s finished in a gorgeous shade of ‘Guards Red’ over a Beige leather interior. This 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera S is internally designated a 993 model by Porsche which indicates that the car was produced from 1994-1998. The 993 had many different variants, which all varied in equipment, body styling, engines, and more, however, the Carrera S is one of the most desirable, and most valuable models within the 993 generation (aside from the RS and Turbo S which are even more exclusive). The Carrera S was only manufactured for the 1997 model year, with the very last of the cars produced in late 1997 being denominated as 1998 models. The Carrera S was introduced as a widebody version of the standard Carrera, and came equipped with a naturally aspirated flat-6 engine that is capable of producing around 285hp, and all of which is sent through a 6-speed manual transmission. Notably, one year after the production of the 993 Carrera S ended in 1998, Porsche made a major change which would become ultimately an end to the era of air-cooled engines. The popular air-cooled technology engines were implemented in Porsche models for 50 years (1948-1998) before introducing an all-new water-cooled flat-6 in 1999 for the 996 generation of the Porsche 911. Overall, considering the low production numbers, the history of being one of the last air-cooled Porsche 911 models ever produced, and the beautiful Guard’s Red over beige specification, this Porsche is one that you simply have to see to believe!
