2008 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

2008 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

This 2008 Porsche 911 GT3 RS was captured by @yf_carspotting, and it’s simply one of the best road cars that German automobile manufacturer, Porsche has ever created. In total, Porsche built and sold over 200,000 examples of the 997-generation Porsche 911, across all different variations. Considered internally as a 997-model, this car represents one variation of all of the Porsche 911 sports cars manufactured and sold by the German automobile manufacturer Porsche from 2004 (as Model Year 2005) until 2013 across two different generations. The first generation being known as the 997.1 (2004-2008) and the second, updated 997.2 (2009-2013). In specific, the 997-generation of the 911 happened to be one of the greatest variants they ever produced. As far as the 997.1 GT3 RS model shown here in specific, this model was first introduced as a homologation model. In 2006, the GT3 RS of this generation made its first ever debut in Europe, while it wouldn’t be until 2007 that North America would be able to get a look at this visceral Porsche model. In comparison the the 997 GT3, the GT3 RS reduces the total weight by about 44lbs, allowing for a total weight of just about 3,020lbs. This weight savings was made possible by the use of a carbon fiber rear wing, a lightweight plastic windscreen, and a number of other elements that were incorporated into this models design to have a heavy emphasis on weight reduction. The GT3 RS is also 2.5 inches wider than the GT3 model in the rear, and alongside the wide variety of cosmetic and mechanical enhancements, the GT3 RS also received unique paint scheme options and body panels that were all specifically tailored to the GT3 RS model. In order to comply with the rules of SCCA, Can-Am, and IMSA, US-spec 997.1 GT3 RS examples feature a standard rear window, and a smaller fuel tank. Production of the 997.1 GT3 RS ended in 2009 with just around 1,168 total examples produced.
