This is the very unique 2010 Porsche 918 Spyder Concept (Project XG10), which is a mid-engined hybrid supercar concept design that was first unveiled by Porsche during the Geneva Motor Show in March of 2010. This model stole the spotlight at the 80th Geneva Motor Show, and after 2,000 declarations of interest, the supervisory board of Porsche AG approved the 918 for production on July 28th of 2010. This of course was subsequently followed by a production version being shown in 2013 at Frankfurt after being designed by German automobile designer, Michael Mauer, who currently serves as Chief Designer at Porsche. The 918 production car (2013-2015, 918 units) was constructed upon a carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer monocoque chassis and only 918 total units were produced for the world, with only approximately 300 total delivered to the United States. The production version of the Porsche 918 is reported to have a top speed of around 220mph with a 0-60mph in under 2.5 seconds. Notably, in September of 2013, a Porsche 918 fitted with the optional 'Weissach Package' managed to set a Nürburgring lap time of 6:57! The concept version of the 918 is slightly different from the production version, and one of the most easily recognizable elements is the location of the exhaust, which on the concept car are located on the sides, as well as the wing mirror cameras, which were also removed along the way. Chief Designer at Porsche, Michael Mauer, was able to create a design that could pay homage to the original Porsche 550 Spyder of the 1950s.
How many made? It’s unclear as to how many concepts were created, however, it’s likely only a handful or less were built.
Engine: the production version uses a 4.6 L (4,593 cc) Porsche MR6 V8 paired with two electric motors that make for a combined 875hp.
Debut: 80th Geneva Motor Show in March 2010
Top Speed: around 220mph
