2010 Tirrito Ayrton S

2010 Tirrito Ayrton S

Imagine a world, where the McLaren Senna is not the most interesting looking car to be named after Brazilian racing driver, Ayrton Senna. Today, we’re going to be discussing another car that was named after the famous driver, the 2010 Tirrito Ayrton S by Tirrito Motorsports Engineering, based in Cuorgnè, Italy. The story behind this car begins with a man named Andrea Tirrito, who at the young age of just 10 years old began building go-karts using motorcycle engines, so it wasn’t hard to tell he’d later evolve into wanting to produce automobiles. By 18, Tirrito produced a replica of the Williams FW18, followed by fully functional copies of cars such as the McLaren MP15 and MP16. Soon Andrea Tirrito would begin designing his own version of a dream car, the SuperSport Vajon, and in 2006, that vision became even more of a reality with his first prototype, the Tirrito Vajon RTT. Only one singular Vajon RTT was produced, and subsequently Tirrito would direct his focus on a new project, the Ayrton, which is in fact named after three-time Formula 1 champion Ayrton Senna himself. The Ayrton was planned to be produced across three separate variants including the Ayrton T, the Ayrton R, and this car shown here, the Ayrton S, all being powered by the same BMW-sourced V10 engine, with power ranging from 500-627hp. All-together, the car weighs in at just 2,469lbs, and in specific, the white example shown here was actually a repordetly continuation of the original Vajon RTT prototype. The goal was to have each variant of the Ayrton be produced in limited numbers, and while some reports show handfuls of these cars were produced, it’s likely that only a single copy of each variant was ever made. The design of the car is definitely different from anything I’ve ever seen in quite a positive way, it’s not entirely clear as to why the company didn’t follow through with production.
