1992 Vector Avtech WX-3

1992 Vector Avtech WX-3

This is the 1992 Vector Avtech WX-3 Prototype (1V9VW2629PW048001). This exact car was the car on display during the 1992 Geneva Motor Show where it famously made it’s first appearance to the world first painted in Silver. One year later, a roadster counterpart called the WX-3R appeared alongside its coupé sibling during the 1993 Geneva Motor Show. The Vector Motors Corporation was first founded in 1971 as the ‘Vehicle Design Force’ by American automotive engineer and businessman, Gerald Wiegert. Later on, the name was changed to Vector Aeromotive. Vector as a whole would eventually end up constructing approximately 1 W2 (1978), 19 examples of the W8 (1989–1993), 1 WX-3 (1992), 1 WX-3R (1993). After Indonesian company, MegaTech acquired a controlling interest in Vector in 1993, the company produced 17 M12s (1995–1999) and 1 SRV8 (1999) using a race-converted M12. The very last project that Wiegert was involved in appeared in 2007, known as the WX-8 HPRV (hypertech performance road vehicle). The WX-3 and WX-3R are essentially further developments Vector’s W8 model. New design elements included a high-mounted, low-drag symmetrical wing, a totally new aerospace-engineered body, a glass-to-glass edge canopy with invisible A-pillars, a jet-aircraft-type instrumentation panel machined from billet aluminum that includes military-specification F-117A switches and much more. The WX-3 and WX-3R prototypes were painted in blue and teal colors in order to match Gerald Wiegert’s jet ski company Aquajet’s logo at the time. As of today, both WX Vector prototypes are currently being offered for sale via @wearecurated.
