2007 Vector Avtech WX-8 HPRV

2007 Vector Avtech WX-8 HPRV

This is the 2007 Vector Avtech WX-8 HPRV, the very last project to wear a Vector badge. The Vector Motors Corporation was first founded in 1971 as the ‘Vehicle Design Force’ by American automotive engineer and businessman, Gerald Wiegert. Later on, the name was changed to Vector Aeromotive. Vector as a whole would eventually end up constructing approximately 1 W2 (1978), 19 examples of the W8 (1989–1993), 1 WX-3 (1992), 1 WX-3R (1993). After Indonesian company, MegaTech acquired a controlling interest in Vector in 1993, the company produced 17 M12s (1995–1999) and 1 SRV8 (1999) using a race-converted M12. The very last project that Wiegert was involved in appeared in 2007, known as the WX-8 HPRV (hypertech performance road vehicle). Initially, the model was called the WX-10, and before the term ‘hypercar’ began floating around, Wiegert considered this project as a ‘hyper tech-supercar’. The WX-8 first ever made its public debut at the 2007 LA Auto Show with plans to include aerospace and aviation technology, race-car performance, and an interior loaded with switches from an F-22 Raptor fighter jet, a reconfigurable electroluminescent 4 mode display panel as well as spacecraft circuit breakers. Plans for either a a 10.0L big-block V8 or an electric/hybrid 7.0L small-block V-8 were also included with 1850hp, and a top speed of 270mph being the goal. The WX-8 used a number of parts from pre-existing cars, including Corvette wheels, a Viper motor, and eventually an empty Chevy V8 block. Sadly, while the WX-8 improved and changed as the years went by, Wiegert did not live to see the culmination of this impressive design. More information regarding the WX-8, and all of Vector’s other works over the years will be revealed in an upcoming feature length documentary film known as “Vector: America’s First Supercar”, which will be produced by Snow Productions and written and directed by award-winning film maker, Shannon Wafford.
